BRITISH superstock rider Joshua Boyd is set to return to action after a freak accident ruled him out of the last round at Knockhill.

Boyd was knocked unconscious at 140mph while testing at Snetterton at the beginning of June.

The Evesham-based Jones Dorling Racing member was struck in the head by a fairing which had become detached from another rider’s bike.

The impact from the shell, which covers motorcycles, knocked out Boyd while he was still on the bike and he crashed.

Although battered and bruised, Boyd escaped a serious injury and has been recovering.

However, his bike was not as lucky and needed a rebuild at extensive cost and hard work by the Jones Dorling team.

Boyd joined the team at Knockhill to support his team-mate Ashley Beech for round four of the British Superbike championship.

The team arrived at the Scottish circuit with high hopes for Beech to add to his championship points following improvements to the BMW 1000.

Despite a fine team effort to overcome some issues, he could not live up to the hopes and failed to finish his two races.

During Friday’s free practice, Beech finished 10th but reported brake problems, which the team set to work on.

Beech was the only rider out on track by the end of the session, putting in an extra seven laps. He qualified in 11th place.

When the first race started, Beech had to retire on lap three.

Determined to get the bike race ready, the whole team put in a huge amount of hard work overnight to get it working and adjusted correctly to suit Beech’s riding style.

The team waited for Beech to go out in the warm up on Sunday afternoon to check everything was in order for the race later that day.

An impressive wheelie by Beech on the last warm up lap signalled to the team he was happy with the feel of the bike.

Grid positions for the second race were decided by the lap times in race one and Beech started the race in 22nd.

He climbed to 15th by lap five but lost control of the front of the bike on turn three and crashed. However, Beech escaped injury in the tumble.

The next round will be taking place at Snetterton.
