JAKE Astor was the first Bourton juniors’ athlete home at the Fairford Fun Run.

Astor finished second in 11:08, just two seconds behind the winner, and was the first under 13.

Emily Field also shone and was the first female and third overall.

She also has a great future in the sport.

This was the first time Fairford Fun Run had been included in the Bourton Road Runner Race Championship Competition.

It was a relatively flat course at just under 3km and the weather was good.

The race was part of the colourful Fairford Festival and also included a 10km race.

Although the number of Bourton Roadrunners were down, compared to Northleach, 15 runners came and supported the club Astor’s two brothers also shone with Charlie eighth and Michael 11th.

Due to other commitments Charlie only trains occasionally, while Michael is only eight years old and an exciting prospect for the future.

Callum Woolley always works hard in training and finished in 12th place.

Edward Jones was 25th, closely followed by Maria Watkins, Olivia McMorriss and Maite Capper in 28th, 29th and 31st place respectively.

Atticus and Jacob Sinton are also new members and ran well for 39th and 40th places.

Noah Williams, who is only eight, was 50th, closely followed by debutant William Chalmers in 52nd.

Kizzy Brooker ran with a sore foot and was 72nd followed by her sister Charlotte in 89th, also their first races for the club.

Several Bourton Roadrunners also took part in the Cirencester Park 3k Junior Summer Sizzler.

George Quli was sixth overall in 13:05. His younger brother Arthur was not far behind in 18th place in 14:11.

Callum Woolley, who was still recovering from an illness, was 19th in 14:13.

Atticus and Jacob Sinton have both started racing and are enjoying it with 30th and 39th placed finishes respectively in 15:46 and 16:34.
