THE impressive Rich Young secured first place in The Vale Golf Club's maiden Open competition.
Young came home in top spot with an excellent nett 68 and also took a nearest the pin prize, along with Andy Butlin.
The in-form Young received his winners’ shield from Vale men’s captain Andy Wilkinson.
A field of nearly 70 players, including visitors from clubs across the Midlands, took part and produced some superb scores in a hard-fought and good spirited competition.
The top three places were closely contested.
While Young took the leading honour, former club champion Shaun Roberts shot a stunning 70 off scratch.
However, Roberts was pushed into third place by Declan Juliff, who was second after recording a nett 69.
This year’s men’s captain Wilkinson also had cause to celebrate in the Open competition, winning the coveted longest drive accolade on the 16th hole.
