ZAK Brotherton is celebrating after winning the novice section in the first Evesham Youth angling match of the new season.

Brotherton, with 5lb 2oz, was the leading novice, while Harry Lewis, with 4lb 13oz, won the junior section.

The River Avon was perfect for the opening match in the eight-week programme. It attracted 16 juniors.

The next competition will be a rolling draw from 5pm on the Corporation Meadow.

Meanwhile, Eveham Jubilee AS members met at Common Road on the River Avon fishing for the Escott Elsley Cup.

Gary Seadon was first, bagging 11lb 5oz of hemp-caught roach from peg 10.

Phil Seedhouse, from peg 15, was second with a mixed bag of fish for 7-0.

John Swain, from peg eight, with 2-9 and Ian Pitman, from peg 15, with 2-1 topped the sections.

Bryan Townley won the EWMC’s first match of the new season on the club lake at Drakes Broughton.

With the newly-stocked fish showing, weights were up with Townley putting a net of small carp together for 51.12.0.

Spud Taylor, who was second, caught big fish down the edge for 38.14.0, while Rick Huxley was third with 32.7.0. Vic Woods 25.7.0 and Stuart Robinson 19.5.0 were section winners.
