EVESHAM’S Olly Turner had a best return of eighth place at Silverstone National in the British Racing and Sports Car Club Fiesta Junior Championship.

The 14-year-old produced a series of solid showings in the Amber Motorhome-backed car on a circuit he had previously tested.

Turner qualified in 10th for the first race, but had shown quicker times earlier in practice.

The opening race was fairly uneventful and he finished in 10th place.

In the second race, Turner was in the thick of the action on first lap and maintained decent flow.

However, he missed a gear when exiting Brooklands and a number of cars zipped past to leave him in 13th spot.

Although frustrated, Turner aimed to regain lost places before the end of the race.

Turner battled his way through the pack to finish eighth overall, only a short distance from the seventh-placed car.

Turner was delighted with his recovery and believed his frustration led to an excellent drive towards the finish.

Autoenginuity-supported Turner is now making improvements to his car under the guidance of Ryan Hooker, Jack Layton, and the Jam Sport Team.

The package of support is helping to allow a very committed Turner to develop into a well-rounded and fast driver.

Turner is now looking forward to the next event at Rockingham on June 18. It is an iconic and tough circuit but one where Turner’s passion for motorsport started.

He is proud to be supporting Gloucestershire Young Carers (GYC) as part of his racing campaign. He hopes to raise the profile of the support GYC gives to young people looking after a family member.
