EVESHAM United dropped to fourth in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West following a poor performance at the Denplan City Ground with Winchester City running out worthy 4-1 winners.

It was another frustrating afternoon in Hampshire for the large contingent of United supporters who have now seen their side without a victory in four games.

In the first minute the hosts' Robbie Matthews was shown a straight red card for a foul on Adam Mann as he was the last man.

City keeper Lewis Noice had to twice rush from his area to deny Mann, once clearing the ball with his head.

Although Craig Feeney forced Nick Stanley to clear at the expense of a corner Winchester were generally on the back foot in the first half.

It was against the run of play when they went ahead in the 28th minute when Howard Neighbour crossed from the right for Stuart Green to score.

Play was end-to-end with Elliot Kennedy and Mann having chances for the visitors.

Evesham equalised just before half-time when Lance Smith set up Mann who easily converted his 10th goal of the season.

Fifteen minutes into the second half the Robins' Archie Haskayne was red carded for an alleged stamp to level up the numbers.

On 79 minutes Feeney was brought down in the box and Neighbour sent Kevin Sawyer the wrong way from the spot to put Winchester back ahead.

Evesham tried to get back but City defended well and Feeney came close to adding a third goal.

With three minutes of normal time remaining Andy Jenkinson netted from a free-kick about 25 yards out.

Feeney then set up Green who smashed the ball into the roof of the net to complete the scoring deep into injury-time.

United finished the game with nine men after Jordan Bryan limped off with all three substitutes used.

More injury worries for manager Paul Collicutt saw top scorer Smith and Mann also pick up knocks with big question marks over their fitness for Saturday's league home game with third-from-bottom Slimbridge (3pm).

Evesham: Sawyer, Bryan, Stanley, Haskayne, Harding, Williams, Kennedy, Gray (Brown 45), Smith (Odeiro 73), Mann, Sloggett (Magee 63). Subs not used: Leonard, Gilder.

Attendance: 178.
