WORCESTER Triathlon Club’s popular Peopleton Duathlon has been arranged for Sunday, February 26, at 9am.

This will be the 12th year of the race and there should be more than 100 competitors.

The main contest is a four-mile, two-lap run followed by an 18-mile, two-lap bike section and finally a two-mile run.

There is also a contest for beginners and others involving two, nine and two miles respectively as well as a team relay option for the main race.

Entries are accepted online at entrycentral.com for the duathlon which will be based from Peopleton Village Hall.

Race director Les Bailey can be contacted on 07976 894997 or 01905 840082 and entries on the day will be taken before 8am at the registration desk.

As in previous years 10 per cent of the turnover will be donated to St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester.

A future event for the city club is the Worcester Triathlon on Sunday, May 14, involving a 1,500-metre open-water swim, 60-kilometre bike section and 10km run or a 750m, 30km and 5km distance.

It will be based from the University of Worcester’s Lakeside Campus in Holt Heath.

The Droitwich Triathlon follows on Sunday, July 23, from the town’s leisure centre involving a 400m indoor swim, 20km bike section and 5km run.

The club’s Jason Bloomer said: “I would recommend the Droitwich Triathlon as particularly good for beginners due to the shortest distance and the pool swim with a staggered start.

“We get a wide range of abilities at this race every year evidenced by the shopping and mountain bikes that haven’t seen the light of day for years through to £10,000 carbon missiles.”

Club training involves four pool swim sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and open-water sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays from May until September.

Worcester also have track sessions at Nunnery Wood Leisure Complex and strength and conditioning at the University of Worcester.

Weekend runs and bike sessions are arranged via the club’s Facebook group.

They also have a junior section run by British Triathlon certified coaches that meets on Saturday mornings.

Bloomer added: “We welcome all abilities from those dipping their first toe into triathlon to seasoned athletes competing for Great Britain at international level across all distances from sprint to ironman.”
