EVESHAM United made it 11 Southern League Division One South and West wins in a row with a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Salisbury in front of their biggest crowd of the season.

The visitors, managed by former Birmingham City striker Steve Claridge, dominated the opening quarter and should have been ahead.

Second-placed Evesham settled and got into their stride, going ahead on 35 minutes as the ball fizzed around the box and Lance Smith connected with a stooping header to score.

The second half started with Salisbury in the ascendancy but the Robins doubled their lead when a 25-yard shot by Joe Turley was deflected in by Ashley Williams on 65 minutes.

Evesham were reduced to 10 men when Lewis Binns was sent off for an alleged headbutt but this did not prevent them going 3-0 up when an Adam Mann corner was headed in from six yards by Nick Stanley.

But in the 83rd minute Robins substitute Carl Brown committed a foul in the box and Tommy Wright scored with the resultant penalty to set up a tense finish.

Evesham, watched by 402 fans, failed to clear their lines three minutes later and substitute Claudio Herbert prodded home to make it 3-2.

The home side managed to keep Salisbury out in the dying minutes to record an excellent victory over a good side ahead of Tuesday's league visit to Didcot Town.

Evesham: Sawyer, Dovey, Stanley, Turley (Brown 68), Harding, Sheehan (Odeiro 76), Fahy, Williams, Smith, Magee (Mann 63), Binns. Subs not used: Kennedy, Gilder.

Meanwhile, former Worcester City forward Mike Symons scored twice as Hereford bagged all five goals in the first half against AFC Totton.

Tristan Plummer, Pablo Haysham and an Ian Oliver own goal were also on target for the league leaders in a 5-0 win watched by 2,522 fans at Edgar Street.
