EVESHAM United's impressive run continued with a 5-1 mauling of Slimbridge in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West last night.

Despite taking an early lead, the hosts were put to the sword by a rampant Robins side who went on to dominate.

It was the second time inside four days United had struck five goals following the beating dished out to Larkhall Athletic last Saturday.

Such was United's dominance, Paul Collicutt's men amassed 25 shots at goal with 11 on target.

But they were caught cold straight from the kick-off with Evesham old boy Lee Smith firing the Swans into a second-minute lead by tucking away Marley Thomas' right-wing cross.

The hosts' lead did not last long before top-scorer Lance Smith capitalised on poor handling by home keeper Adrian Kowalski and forced the ball home from close range.

United's Adam Mann squandered an opportunity when he dithered on the ball after rounding Kowalski and then former Swan Paul Fahy had his shot blocked on the line.

United began the second half with a bang as Leroy Odiero fired the Robins into a 2-1 lead after the defence failed to clear Lorcan Sheehan's corner.

On the hour, a third goal arrived courtesy of Fahy's run and clinical finish into the far corner after good work by the hard-working Smith.

Five minutes later, Slimbridge midfielder Ryan Thwaite was sent off for two yellow cards.

United were in cruise control and made it 4-1 through midfielder Sheehan in the 71st minute when he headed in his first goal of the season from Mann's knock-back.

In the last minute, the impressive Fahy bagged another great finish to put the gloss on another sparkling team performance.

Manager Collicutt said: “Slimbridge is a hard place to come, especially at night. They don't lose many at home and recently they beat big-hitters Salisbury.

"I was very pleased with the effort and the way we went about playing our football.

"On a personal note, it ended my hoodoo of coming here more than a dozen times with various clubs and never winning a game.”
