EVESHAM United fell to a 2-0 defeat at Shortwood United in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

The bank holiday loss was the Robins’ first setback since the 1-0 reverse at Salisbury on the opening day of the season.

Mid-table Evesham threatened when Lewis Binns’ corner was headed against the bar by Linden Dovey in the 25th minute.

But Shortwood took the lead a minute later when defender Andy Lewis fired into the top corner after Evesham failed to clear.

Jake Lee had a shot blocked by Binns and also chipped just over for the hosts.

In the second half, Evesham’s Adam Mann directed a free header wide from Binns’ cross.

But Lee nearly made it 2-0 after dispossessing Will Wellon and drifting an effort just wide with keeper Kevin Sawyer beaten.

However, substitute Will Morford got the second goal on 66 minutes when he ran through to net.

The visitors could not find a way through with Fahy’s shot saved by a diving Rhys Lovett 12 minutes from time.

Evesham: Sawyer, Dovey, Sheehan (Kennedy 57), Turley, Sysum, Wellon, Bryan (Jeanne 68), A Williams (B Williams 73), Mann, Fahy, Binns. Subs not used: Stanley, Pearson.

Attendance: 121.

Meanwhile, a crowd of 3,102 watched as league leaders Hereford FC thrashed struggling Bishops Cleeve 4-0 thanks to goals from Mike Symons, John Mills (2) and Pablo Haysham.

Malvern Town visit Herefordshire side Wellington tomorrow night and Bewdley Town host AFC Bridgnorth (both 7.45pm).
