FORTY The Vale ladies braved rain and wind to play a medal.

Nine tackled the winners’ medal with Lyn Robinson getting the best gross of 89 ahead of Jean Humphries on 93.

Sue Simpson secured the best nett of 77 with Clare Bunn runner-up on 82 on count-back.

In the medal, Deb Smith won the Silver Division with 71 nett and Mary Yates was third on count-back with 78 followed by Humphries.

Simpson topped the Bronze Division with 77, while Sue Day claimed the Copper Division on 80 ahead of Penny Sharp on 82.

The Vale ladies enjoyed an away day at Brickhampton Court with teams of four competing in a stableford.

Robinson, Sue Jones, Day and Sandra Cornwell won with 90 points in front of Pat Darch, Liz Brownsden, Gill Mitchell and Sandy Seager on 89 and Deb Langham, Sue Vincent, Trish Hulburd and Heather Shackleton on 88.

Pat Hird was nearest the pin and longest drives were by Smith, Darch and Sharp.

The seniors organised an open four-ball better-ball stableford.

A field of 148 with 81 from visiting clubs competed to a high standard with 16 winners of the twos competition.

The Vale’s Bob Foster and Alan Brooker took the honours with 48 points.

Jim Wilde and Colin Jones from The Worcestershire were second on 47 followed by Rob Finlay and Roger Cotterell from Gaudet Luce on 47 and Barry Whitington and Rob Yewer from Robin Hood, Solihull, on 47.

More than £600 was raised for the captain’s charity, the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust.

Ninety-nine seniors entered a four-ball am-am stableford with seven former captains in the field.

John Jarvis, Brian Evans, Steve Donovan and Hamish Whitehead won with 100 points ahead of Nic Fielden, Graham Bartlett, Tony Perryman and Graham Whitehead on 99.

Martin Rees and Bernie Liberman were third on 97 and Geoff Browne, Larry Taylor, John Milward and Eric Salter took fourth on count-back with 96.

Nearest the pin were Les Cosnett, Steve Kirby, Brian Brumhead and Mick Heard.
