FORMER Worcestershire FA company secretary Mervyn Leggett was elected chairman of the FA National Game Board (NGB) at the association’s summer council meeting.

Leggett, a FA vice-president and main board member, succeeds Roger Burden, who retired after 14 years as chairman.

The NGB is a committee of the FA board and considers all policy matters relating to the grassroots game and development of the sport at all levels.

They also decide on the allocation and payment of NG distributions.

The key goals of the NGB’s current four-year strategy are to sustain and increase participation, coaching and young player development, better training and playing facilities and running the game effectively.

Despite his roles at Wembley, Leggett remains passionate about the game at a local level in the county.

As well as being a life member, he has been elected honorary president of Worcestershire FA for season 2016-17.

Leggett is also president of the Evesham Sunday League and Evesham Referees’ Association.

He is a keen follower of his hometown club Evesham United and enjoys watching his grandson play for the club’s under 10s.
