WORCESTERSHIRE six-year-old Louis Rickett will travel to the United States of America to represent the United Kingdom in junior golf for the second year running.

Last year, Rickett reached the IMG World Junior Golf Championships and came 22nd in the year group above.

The Harvington youngster won newcomer of the year at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards and was selected to join the county under-12s’ squad as the youngest player they had ever selected.

This year, Rickett finished seventh at the European Junior Golf Championships and has qualified to represent the UK at the US Kids World Golf Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina, in August.

To help the youngster with travel, accommodation and coaching, The Vale, Bishampton, will be holding a fundraising golf day on October 1 and everyone is welcome.

Meanwhile, Harvington Golf Society members crossed the county border to visit The Warwickshire for the first time.

Overnight rain meant the course played long and soft but in the morning warm-up round Mino Vernaschi returned 17 points to take first prize.

After lunch, Fred Fawkes won nearest the pin and longest drive on his way to victory in the Challenge Plate with a score of 33 points, beating on count-back Paul Harper and Trevor Sidwell.

Sidwell used his age-related two courtesy shots to win the Councillors’ Cup, which was presented by the late councillor David Lee and members used the occasion to celebrate his life and sense of humour.
