MANAGER Paul Collicutt says he will be running the rule over his squad when Evesham United face two mouth-watering games in consecutive nights.

The Robins begin their pre-season schedule at home to Forest Green Rovers tonight (7.45pm) before visiting neighbours Pershore Town tomorrow (7.45pm).

Collicutt said his team were only scheduled to play their local rivals before the National League outfit gave them an offer they “could not turn down”.

However, the Evesham boss believed the double-header provided him with a great opportunity to look at all his players and several trialists.

“I am going to be using a squad of about 21 or 22 players tonight and then tomorrow I have got every intention of giving the trialists a chance to impress,” he said.

“It will give me a chance to finalise a number of players we are either going to sign or not.

“Even though the Forest Green match wasn’t planned it has worked out quite well.”

Collicutt says he is relishing the chance to take on his former club having previously played for Rovers and spent two seasons as their assistant manager.

“They have got a very good chairman in Dale Vince, who has backed the club fully, and a manager in Mark Cooper who likes to play football, so it should be an entertaining game.”

Evesham have strengthened their squad with the signing of striker Paul Fahy, who scored 22 goals for Southern League Division One South and West rivals Slimbridge last season.

“He is a player I have known about for a few years and one I am looking forward to working with,” Collicutt added. “Hopefully he can come in and win over the Evesham supporters because I genuinely do believe the lad has got a lot of potential.”

Evesham host Cheltenham Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
