THE Vale ladies section held their club championship with fine weather and a course in great condition.

Sally Smith was crowned the club champion over 27 holes of strokeplay with the best gross of 128 ahead of runner-up Lyn Robinson on 133.

Terri Hawes picked up the best nett prize with 113 on the Bishampton course in front of Jan Ledbury on 117.5.

The Lady Captain’s Trophy for ladies of handicap 0 to 28 over 18 holes of strokeplay went to Pauline Hawkins with 97 gross 80 nett in front of Jacqui Cravos with 101-82.

Anne Gusterson claimed the Angora Cup for handicaps of 29 to 36 with 118-86 followed by Margaret Perryman on 120-88.

Forty-two The Vale ladies competed in 21 teams for the Karen Stupples Trophy in a Medford competition.

The pairs event saw one play a medal and the other a stableford.

The stableford score is deducted from the nett strokeplay to give the final tally.

Fee Mitchell and Jean Humphries won with 48 points ahead of Hawes and Margaret McCaig on 52 and Deb Smith and Annameika Phillips on 54.

The trophy, a putter mounted on a board, was given to the section by European Tour player Stupples to recognise the support The Vale gave her at the ladies’ open over a number of years.
