EVESHAM United boosted their Southern League Division One South and West play-off claims with a second away win in three days at a fellow contender.

After ending Taunton Town’s 15-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 success, the Robins blew away Swindon Supermarine’s 16 games without defeat by triumphing 1-0 thanks to red-hot striker Lance Smith’s brace.

Eighth-placed United have lost just three times away this season and are within four points of the top five ahead of Saturday’s game with Larkhall Athletic at the Jubilee Stadium (3pm).

Paul Collicutt’s Evesham registered a fourth consecutive clean sheet in a row and outplayed Swindon throughout.

Midfielders Clayton Green and Carl Brown were absent but 18-year-old Karnell Chambers was on the substitutes’ bench after signing on work experience forms from Cheltenham Town.

The first half was low-key with United having the edge but, despite large chunks of possession, they could not find the net.

Adam Mann had an effort disallowed for offside and home keeper Harvey Rivers saved from Smith and Jacob Sloggett.

Swindon had half-chances with keeper Kevin Sawyer gathering low down from Chris Taylor and Ryan Morgan blazing over.

Sloggett headed just over at the start of the second period and Rivers diverted Nick Stanley’s shot wide as Evesham pressed.

The breakthrough arrived on the hour mark when Stanley’s pass enabled Smith to charge clear and cut inside before beating the advancing Rivers.

United needed another goal and it arrived courtesy of another Smith strike on 75 minutes.

The outstanding Ashley Williams found him in the box with a well-measured pass, which Smith clinically put away.

He was denied a hat-trick by an offside flag, while Sawyer denied Marcus Schuster at the other end.

Evesham host Bashley next Tuesday (7.45pm).
