EVESHAM United returned from lowly Wimborne Town with a 1-0 win in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Without the suspended Matt Sysum and Clayton Green and the injured Liam Harding, the visitors started well and took the lead in the third minute.

The goal came from a swinging cross from the right by Jacob Sloggett that was hit first time by Lewis Binns from six yards out.

Evesham continued to boss the first half but failed to convert a hatful of chances.

The second half saw early work for Evesham keeper Kevin Sawyer, who tipped over a dipping shot from Carl Preston.

On the hour mark, Robins forward Adam Mann hit the post with Sawyer making further stops at the other end, including a clearance off the line.

Wimborne pressed late on but Evesham remained dangerous on the break.

United have suffered just one defeat in 12 league games and remain in eighth place, five points off the play-off positions.

They visit Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Evesham: Sawyer, Wilson (Brown 72), Stanley, Williams, Dovey, Wellon, Sloggett (Taylor 89), Wood, Mann, Smith, Binns. Subs not used: Whelan, Modest.
