WORCESTER club star Tazmin Pugh was again in record-breaking mood as Sheffield staged the first Amateur Swimming Association National Short Course Championships since 1999.

The Pershore girl was among three competitors from Worcestershire on swimming scholarships at Ellesmere College, Shropshire.

Pugh, 15, again broke British, English and regional junior records.

Chloe Golding, 17, smashed a Midlands record and Harry Bamforth, 15, made the difficult qualifying standard for the 1,500-metre freestyle.

Pugh and Golding, of Evesham, fought their way through to seven open finals in total.

On the first of the four-day meet, Pugh made the B final in the 200m butterfly.

But, despite setting the fastest junior 15-and-under time, a last-minute change to the conditions saw any junior in the A final taking precedence over the B contest.

Pugh had to settle for silver, though her previous British record still keeps her ranked first girl aged 15 or 16 in Europe.

In the 50m butterfly, she was fifth in the heats and made the A final against older university swimmers from Loughborough and Bath.

Pugh finished fourth overall to take the top junior trophy and title in a British junior record of 26.74 seconds to be ranked second in Europe.

The 100m butterfly saw Pugh cruise through the heats to the B final, where she collected her second junior trophy and gold medal.

She was only 0.09 seconds short of breaking her own British junior record and rose to first in Europe.

Pugh surpassed herself in the 200m backstroke by making the A final and recording two minutes 7.34 seconds.

She set a new regional record, taking the junior trophy and gold medal while going up to second in Europe.

Ellesmere team-mate Golding piped Pugh to the post by just 0.04 seconds for the open bronze and a Midlands record in the senior division.

Golding also made the finals in the 50m backstroke (28.34 personal best) and 100m backstroke (59.26), finishing seventh in both.

Vale swimmer Bamforth narrowly missed beating his PB in the 1,500m freestyle, clocking 16.49.15.

In 2015, he gained his first open water national time in the 1,500m front crawl in 17.20.70 at the Sheffield premier meet.

Last April, Bamforth won a 400m individual medley silver medal at the Welsh Long Course Championships, as well as a bronze in the 200m butterfly.

June brought a silver medal in the 3km Midlands Open Water Championship and Bamforth then swam at the National Open Water Championship for the first time.

He competed in the 200m and 400m freestyle, 400m individual medley and 200m backstroke at the Midlands Short Course championship, achieving PBs in all .

Golding, who swims as an 18-year-old this year, was selected for the West Midlands team in Luxembourg in February and holds two regional senior short-course records.

She is seventh in Europe in one event and 10th in two more.

Pugh enjoyed success in Luxembourg, too, with two golds and two silvers for the region.

She followed this in Italy in June with three golds and one silver for the Team England development squad.

Pugh bagged two silvers and four bronzes for England in Samoa at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

She also claimed four bronzes at the Ontario junior international and looks forward to the Pro Swim US Grand Prix Series Austin leg in Texas and Flanders Cup in Belgium.

Pugh, who holds four British junior records, is ranked first in Europe in two events and second in two more.
