EVESHAM United fell to a 2-1 defeat at high-flying Winchester City to end their eight-match unbeaten run.

Decimated by illness, unavailability and suspension, Evesham got off to the worst possible start in the third minute when Adam Tomasso scored for the hosts.

But the visitors were guilty of missing good chances in the Southern League Division One South and West encounter.

The Robins could have gone into the break level or possibly even in front.

In the 63rd minute, Winchester scored a controversial second through Charlie Smeeton from close range when the referee overruled his assistant’s flag for offside.

Evesham replied in the 87th minute when Adam Mann cut in from the right and his shot went in off the post for his 11th goal of the season.

In injury-time, United’s Clayton Green was sent off for retaliation for a push.

Evesham: Sawyer, Wood, Dovey, Green, Sysum, Wellon, Modest (Sloggett 47), Brown, Mann, Smith, Binns (Taylor 83).

Attendance: 163.
