EVESHAM United paid the price for not taking their chances as they had to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw with lowly Marlow at a blustery Jubilee Stadium.

It was a disappointing result for the Robins, who host Cinderford Town on Saturday (3pm), as they should have wrapped things up before half-time.

Lance Smith put his side in front with 15 minutes left, but poor finishing and the woodwork enabled the visitors to return with just their fifth away point of the season in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Due to the late arrival of a number of Marlow players, the start was put back 15 minutes and United were first out of the blocks.

An early goalmouth scramble saw a few efforts blocked and Blues keeper Simon Grant make a good save to deny Nick Stanley.

With the wind behind them, United stayed on the front foot with Sean Wood firing over and then snatching at a shot with only Grant to beat.

Grant was having a busy evening but Marlow fired a warning shot when Stephen Peacock thundered an effort against Kevin Sawyer’s post.

United went straight up the other end and Carl Brown brushed the bar with a powerful shot.

Early in the second half, the visitors’ woodwork was struck again by Liam Harding’s 20-yard snap-shot.

Evesham’s pressure finally told on 74 minutes, when Smith beat his marker and fired in low past Grant for his seventh goal of the season.

However, their joy was short-lived when Marlow levelled six minutes later through a clinical finish by Devontae Romeo.

Despite late pressure and corners, Paul Collicutt’s men could not find a winner, but they extended their unbeaten run to seven games.

Evesham: Sawyer, Dovey (Wilson 4), Stanley, Harding, Sysum, Wellon, Brown (Sloggett 56), Wood, Mann (Modest 70), Smith, Green. Subs not used: Binns, Williams.

Attendance: 194.

Westfields lost their third consecutive Midland League Premier Division home game, going down to title contenders Alvechurch 3-0.

Jason March’s solo goal and Jordan Nadat’s finish put Church in control, before Karl Edwards finished off a fine injury-time move.
