THOUSANDS of people are set to flock to Evesham Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend for the angling extravaganza.

The cream of British match fishing will take part in three big contests with a total of more than £19,000 on offer in prize money.

All kinds of methods will come into play from feeder to waggler and the ever-faithful bloodworm and joker.

There will also be a range of exhibitors on show.

The event, hosted by David Hall Publishing Ltd, is at Evesham’s Crown and Corporation Meadows from 8.30am on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The Evesham Individual Championship is on the first day for the best competitors, while the cream of local talent competes in the Wychavon Championship on Sunday.

Finally, the Match Fishing Team Championship sees 14 sides go for the title on Monday.

Meanwhile, 27 Evesham Jubilee AS members fished an afternoon match at Jubilee Fishery.

Phil Seedhouse won from Withies pool peg five with 95lb 14oz ahead of Richard Walker off peg three with 89-12 and Ray Nosworthy on the Jubilee pool with 59-7.

Section winners were Chris Taylor (54-8), Ian Pitman (52-1), Steve Foster (51-6) and Jason Evans (50-8).

On the canal at Droitwich, Evans won with 10-7 followed by Foster (6-4) with section wins going to Doug Smith (5-7) and Nigel Cox (4-12).

The Grant Davis Memorial Cup is on Saturday, September 5. Over 10 years, Jubilee have raised around £10,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.

All competitors are asked to donate at least £15 to the fund and there will be a roving draw at 8.30am with fishing from 10.30am until 3.30pm.

Mick Brooks had 113-11 of carp on the dog biscuit to win at Rissington Road Fishery for Evesham WMC.

Adam Barker and Mark Sparrow caught 103-5 and 92-10 respectively, while section winners were Vic Woods (64-4) and Stuart Robinson (84-12).
