WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids skipper Daryl Mitchell admits he and his team-mates “would love to go that extra step” and reach the NatWest T20 Blast finals day for the first time.

Rapids launch their group campaign this evening when they take on Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston (6.30pm).

Worcestershire have reached four quarter-finals in the competition — including two in the last three years — and Mitchell would relish the chance to return to Edgbaston for finals day on August 29.

He said: “Finals day is the one thing missing from my CV. It’s not as if we are not trying to get there.

“We have worked hard and we have come close, three quarter-finals in recent memory and four in total.

“We are looking to get out of the group first and foremost, get to that quarter-final and if we got a home quarter-final that would be nice.

“We’ve never had one and if we can finish in the top two that would give us a shot of that and hopefully get through to the big one at Edgbaston.”

Mitchell was Worcestershire Rapids leading run-scorer last summer.
