GROWERS United FC will be lining up against a team of Liverpool legends at Evesham United’s Jubilee Stadium on Saturday, July 11.

The likes of Bob Bolder, Alan Kennedy, Ronnie Whelan and Mark Wright could be leading the Reds’ charge against the footballing and horticulturalist stars from the Vale of Evesham.

After the game, guests and all players will be joining festivities taking place on the banks of River Avon, as the organisers of the annual River Festival are putting on a display of fireworks.

This year’s theme for the Growers United will be Copa America and a tournament featuring 32 teams is being held at the Jubilee Stadium on July 18 and 19. It is raising funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Cancer Research UK.

Event promoter Bal Padda said: “We are hope that the Growers United FC Copa America 2015 will be as successful as last year’s GUFC World Cup.”

Growers United FC started in 2012 when a group of horticulturalists from the Valeof Evesham played a charity match against Evesham United.

The proceeds from the match went to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and to support a local girl who had been diagnosed with cancer.

They have now raised a remarkable £27,000 for various local charities.
