LINDA Carruthers strode to victory as 50 women competed in their first England Golf Medal and Silver Salver qualifier of the season at Broadway GC.

Carruthers carded an outstanding 73 nett to win the medal and also achieved lowest gross with an incredible 79.

The remaining field battled on and, in the Silver Division, Jayne Potter brought in a 76 nett to take first place. Sue Jackson was second with 78 and Lin Everitt took third with 79.

In the Bronze Division, Wendy Hicks’ 75 nett earned her first place, leaving Judith Noyce (78) second and Maggie McDivitt (80).

The top 16 are eligible to go forward to knock-out stages to qualify for the Silver Salver, a prestigious trophy presented in 1958 by former member Madge Roberts.

The Ladies Cup, first presented in 1991 by Broadways’ ladies section for the Best Junior Stableford score, has been won on a countback by Benjamin Beacham.

He shot 39 points and pipped second placed Curtis Coane with Jack Drury earning 32 to take third from Tommaso Vilona.

Broadway’s junior team of Kieran Sutton, Jamie Andrew, James Russell, Will Icke and Curtis Coane secured a 4-1 win against Malvern College.

A total of 94 Vale Seniors enjoyed a four-ball individual stroke-play competition.

Division 2: 1 Nic Fielden (gross 83, nett 68), 2 Carlo Martinelli (gross 88, nett 68), 3 David Webb (gross 88, nett 68).

Division 3: 1 John Turner (gross 90, nett 68), 2 Michael Spittle (gross 95, nett 70), 3 Andrew Jinks (gross 103, nett 75).

Paul Walker produced a fine display to clinch Harvington Golf Society’s NF Whatmore Trophy over 27 holes at Tewkesbury Park Golf Club.

In the morning round, Steve Cantrill streaked into an early lead with 23 points, a score he replicated in the afternoon. After lunch, the tight scoring was resolved by countback, with stalwart Jimmy Byrne taking the Challenge Plate with 35 points, from Walker who secured the Whatmore Trophy.

A Basford, R Millward, P Harper and Cantrill won prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive,whileWarwick Holland won the endeavour prize.
