A HAT-TRICK of tries from skipper Nathan Chambers swept high-flying Evesham Rugby Club to an emphatic 55-7 home win over struggling Five Ways Old Edwardians.

Scott Fairfax (2), Jake Shotton, Mike Harris and Dale Attwood also scored tries for Evesham, who are on the brink of promotion from Midlands Four West (South).

They are second in the table and five points above third-placed Claverdon, who have one match left.

Evesham visit fourth-placed Kings Norton in their penultimate league match on Saturday (3pm) and a win would guarantee promotion.

Harris added six conversions and a penalty against Five Ways.

Chambers said: “I don’t think we anticipated we would be this strong. The young lads are stepping up hugely into their roles in the team.”

Meanwhile, Pershore host Harbury on Saturday after a 87-5 slump at Midlands Three West (South) leaders Dunlop.

Bredon Star fell 17-12 to Old Richians and travel to Southmead on Saturday in Gloucester Division One.
