BOTTOM-of-the-table Bretforton picked up a vital 5-1 home win over City of Bath in West Clubs Women's Hockey League Premier Division '2A'.

Fellow strugglers Bath went ahead in the first five minutes with an opportunist goal but Bret hit back for only their second victory of a tough season.

Hayley Whitehouse came off the bench to level with a solo effort and Sophie Hamilton then put them ahead from a short corner.

Captain Tess Lewinton scored twice, including a classy fourth when she sweetly connected with a rebound straight off the keeper's pads.

Bret defended well and player-of-the-match Lisa Workman bossed midfield as Emma Lowe added a scruffy fifth goal.

They visit third-placed Cheltenham seconds on Saturday.

Bret seconds returned to action with a 6-0 defeat at leaders Gloucester thirds in Severn Division Two.

Lesley MacKinnon, Nat Benwell, Meg Betteridge, Holly Hutchison and Jemima Hutchison were kept busy in defence.

Gloucester led 3-0 at half-time and in the end were only denied more goals by player-of-the-match Molly Ricketts in goal.

Jess Eaves shot wide from a one-on-one in reply.

There were promising attacks from Ness Dufty and Hannah Dufty with midfielders Alice Cook and Molly Stock linking up well.
