EVESHAM United are on the FA Cup trail again this weekend as they seek to reach the third qualifying round for the first time in three seasons.

The Robins travel to Histon in Cambridgeshire (3pm) on Saturday for a second qualifying round clash which also carries a prize of £4,500 for the winners.

Paul Collicutt’s side have already won two matches to reach this stage of the competition having beaten Kidsgrove Athletic 3-1 and county rivals Redditch United 1-0 following a replay.

Victory at Histon, who play a level above Evesham in the Southern League Premier Division, would move them into the third qualifying round for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign.

Collicutt is relishing the challenge but admits his team will need to up their game after drawing 2-2 at home to North Leigh last weekend.

The United manager said: “There’s a bit of a buzz about the game because it’s the FA Cup.

“But it’s going to be a difficult game, as it was against Redditch. We have got to make sure we lift our game like we did against Redditch and if we do that we will give ourselves a chance.

“If we play like we did against North Leigh we will come away with nothing.”

He added: “The opposition doesn’t worry me, the biggest thing is ourselves.

“When we are right we can beat teams in our own league and from the league above.

“Players are so unpredictable and you don’t know what you are going to get from one week to the next.

“The positive thing was we came away with a point on Saturday. If that had been last season we would have lost.”

Evesham have injury doubts over defender Linden Dovey (ankle), midfielder Marcus Jackson (calf) and striker Ashley Edenborough (illness/hamstring) after all three missed the North Leigh draw.

They are all rated as 50-50 for the cup clash, while midfielder Elliot Kennedy, who has recently recovered from a back injury, has also picked up a groin strain in training.

However, midfielder Nathan Jackson is available for selection after completing a one-match ban.

Histon are third-from-bottom in the Premier Division but will be buoyed after winning their first match of the season last Saturday with a welcome 3-0 home victory over high-flying Weymouth.
