EVESHAM United booked a home tie with neighbours Redditch United in the FA Cup first qualifying round thanks to a 3-1 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Robins rallied after going behind to their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South opponents and comfortably made it through the preliminary-round tie.

Jared Wilson scored twice from the spot to head United’s goal-scoring chart with four in seven matches.

Evesham were on their game from the kick-off at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium, forcing a succession of corners.

Only last-ditch defending from the visitors prevented Paul Collicutt’s side from taking the lead.

Wilson created a fine opening by sending Ashley Edenborough clear but the striker ballooned his shot wide with only keeper Joe Hemmings in his sights.

Kidsgrove shocked the home crowd by snatching an unexpected lead against the run of play with Joe Woolley beating keeper Kevin Sawyer with a first-time drive in the 33rd minute.

The visitors sat back on their lead, getting bodies behind the ball, but, after a spell of pressure, debutant George Washbourne levelled with a fine strike into the bottom corner with just a minute of the first-half left.

Evesham continued to dominate after the break and went ahead within four minutes of the restart. Washbourne was brought down in the box by Clifton Forbes and Wilson made no mistake from 12 yards.

On the hour, Wilson stepped up for his second penalty of the game after Jack Watts was sent tumbling by Daniel Adeoye and beat Hemmings with another precise finish.

Sawyer was rarely tested but Washbourne, Edenborough and substitute Nathan Jackson went close to increasing United’s lead.

Evesham will host Redditch on Saturday, September 13, but first have two Southern League Division One South and West fixtures.

They visit Wimborne Town on Saturday (3pm) and host Didcot Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Former Redditch midfielder Washbourne, 20, is ninth-placed Evesham's latest signing after joining from Stourbridge.

Attendance: 188.
