WICKETKEEPER Ben Cox insists Worcestershire are focused on finishing as LV= County Championship Division Two championS and do not want to settle for being promoted as runners-up.

Cox and the rest of the squad reported back for duty this week after being given the opportunity to recharge their batteries after the recent hectic schedule.

Worcestershire still head the table despite suffering their first Championship defeat of the season in their last match against Gloucestershire at New Road 10 days ago.

Cox believes the break will have recharged the players’ batteries for the final three games, starting with Sunday’s clash with Derbyshire at Derby.

He said: “I know what a lovely ground it is but you spend so much time here and it’s just nice to get away for a break and freshen up, freshen the legs and mind, and then you come back in and enjoy the cricket again.

“It was manic for two weeks and everyone was getting tired and fed up, especially with the loss against Gloucestershire.”
