EVESHAM Golf Club held their annual seniors invitation cup at the Fladbury course.

Teams of two played off full handicap with a stableford format.

The winners with 45 points were Jerry Cain from the host club and Allan Davies, of The Worcestershire in Malvern Wells.

Evesham’s Oliver Farrell enjoyed more success at the North of England Open Amateur Youth Championship in Middlesbrough.

Farrell won the Fairweather Salver for under 18s champion with a score of 284.

Evesham ladies played the Craycombe Trophy and Avon Cup qualifying competitions in blustery, variable conditions.

The trophy was for players with a handicap of 28 and below and won by Mel Evans with 37 points ahead of runner-up Ruth Masters (36).

The Avon Cup, for players with a handicap of 29 and above, went to Conryn Abbott with 30 followed by Angela Fletcher (29).

The windy weather provided a challenge for all participants.

Meanwhile, Vale ladies held their Granny Cup and stableford non-qualifier with 45 playing.

The cup went to Deb Langham with 31 points on count-back ahead of Ann Gusterson (31).

Silver Division honours went to Fiona Mitchell (32) with Lyn Robinson (30) second and Jacqui Cravos (28) third on count-back.

Langham was the Bronze Division winner in front of Mary Yates (29) and Anthea Duckett (28).

Gusterson claimed the Copper Division with Margaret Perryman second on 29 and Karen Broderick third with 27 on count-back.

Ninety-four Vale seniors turned out for the year’s fourth stableford eclectic competition.

Division One went to Eric Salter with 38 points off a 13 handicap ahead of Richard Heath (13-37), Clive Gilbert (13-37) and Alan Taylor (11-37).

Division Two was won by Barry Sayers (20-43) followed by Tony Townsend (20-42), Larry Taylor (23-41) and Geoff Browne (23-41).

Vale retained the Chip ‘n’ Vale Trophy against Chipping Norton, winning 8½-7½ on aggregate after winning 7½-½ at home but losing 7-1 away.

Jim Rushworth and Jim Elliott gained the only away win. Vale also beat Feldon Valley 5½-½, avenging an earlier defeat.

The highlights were victories for Mike Hird and Tony Perryman 7&5 and Peter Richards and Geoff Browne 6&5.

Forty-two Broadway ladies participated in the stableford and Mercia Castle Trophy.

The county-led contest saw the best two cards from each division considered for award of the prestigious trophy. While a little damp and breezy, overall conditions were good and allowed the Silver Division’s Rachel Rigg to stride into first position with 40 points.

Frances Friend was second with 34 and Liz Smith third with 33.

In the Bronze Division, Jude Vidler led with 30, closely followed by Chris Parkinson (29) and Esther Pettitt (28).
