THE Ilmington floorball club continue to grow in both success and reputation.

In June, the under 13s became national champions for the second year in a row and the under 16s narrowly failed to retain their title.

Ilmington player Sam Drew has been called up to the Great Britain under 19s team to play in a tournament in August.

The United Kingdom Floorball Federation headquarters are in Mickleton and chiefs hope it will be an Olympic sport by 2020. There are 41 teams registered in the UK.

The sport is a type of floor hockey, which was developed in the 1970s in Sweden, and played by teams with six players and rolling substitutes.

There have been several times worldwide where a ball has been recorded to have travelled at a speed of around 200kph.

Anyone interested in playing floorball or wanting more details can contact Ilmington coach Hilary Kemp at juniorfloorball@itmsc.co.uk or on 01608-663230.
