EVESHAM’S Liam Tustin has been selected to row in the Great Britain eight at the Junior World Championships in Hamburg.

Tustin, a gold medallist for GB at the European Championships last year, was selected for the competition, which begins next Thursday in Germany, after a series of trials dating back to October.

The Evesham Rowing Club prospect, 18, finally won through after a five-day series of side-by-side seat races in Nottingham this month.

He is training with his crew and the GB coaches at Pangbourne College, Berkshire, before the regatta.

Ex-Evesham juniors Luke Towers and Flo Pickles are in the eight and girls' junior quad respectively.

James Mackins, of Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, was also selected from the trials process and will represent GB at the Junior European Championships in Libourne, south-west France, this weekend in the single sculls.

There was more joy for Evesham as Imogen Dalivalle coxed the England girls’ four and the gold medal-winning eight at the Home Internationals in Cork, Ireland.

In total, Evesham’s junior performance squad have gained four GB vests and one for England this year.

They also won the Schools’ Head and gained the club’s first championship crew medal at the National Schools Regatta, beating the likes of Eton and Abingdon School on the way.

Evesham juniors also competed at Henley Royal Regatta before losing to an older Sydney crew.

Junior performance coach Bill Sullivan said: “It’s been quite a year and it’s fantastic to see the incredible amount of commitment and dedication shown by these athletes rewarded. I’m sure they will represent their country and home town with pride.”
