TOP jockey Tony McCoy surpassed Martin Pipe's total of career winners with a Cotswold-inspired 4,192nd success in the Betfred Summer Plate at Market Rasen.

The Ulsterman ensured bragging rights were his as the Jonjo O'Neill-trained It's A Gimme (2-1) repelled stablemate Lost Legend by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

Ex-jockey O'Neill, of Temple Guiting, said: "He rode a fantastic race. I thought he was beaten going down to the last, but it was a typical AP ride and he got there.

"It's great to be involved in this sport and AP is a great ambassador.

"When I was riding you would never have dreamt someone could have done what AP has done. You'd have said thinking about 4,000 winners would be lunacy.

"I rode some 900 winners and then gave up. I got the money and got out! We won't see anything like him (McCoy) again, certainly no jump jockey.

"It's A Gimme was just exhausted. It was a hot day and he gave every last ounce in that race."

Next Wednesday's thetote.com Galway Plate sees It's A Gimme (10st 6lb) rated as a 10-1 chance for owner JP McManus.

There were other Cotswold winners elsewhere, including Evervescent (9-1) for Stow-on-the-Wold trainer Graeme McPherson at Haydock by a short head.

Wyck Hill handler David Bridgwater toasted another success as Plum Pudding (11-4 second-favourite) provided a tasty treat at Newton Abbot by three-and-a-half lengths.

O'Neill claimed victory at Stratford through Calaf (11-10 favourite) by 14 lengths.
