WORCESTERSHIRE'S on-song Moeen Ali is in line to make his England Test debut after being picked in the squad to face Sri Lanka at Lord's next week.
Three uncapped players are in the first Test squad named by coach Peter Moores since his return to the job.
They are opener Sam Robson and all-rounders Chris Jordan and Moeen.
There is also room in the 12-man squad for seamer Liam Plunkett, who last played Test cricket seven years ago, and another pace option in Chris Woakes.
But Jos Buttler will not be making a Test debut yet with Matt Prior fit after an Achilles injury to return as wicketkeeper.
Moeen said: "I've been concentrating on playing for Worcestershire, who I love playing for, but to now be selected for the Test squad is fantastic news."
National selector James Whitaker said: "We would like to acknowledge the contribution of both the county and England Performance Programme coaches in helping to develop the talents of Sam, Liam, Moeen and Chris.
"All four have carried their exciting winter form into the domestic season to earn well-deserved recognition.
"We believe this group of emerging talent will be very well complemented by the established core of experienced players that have been selected."
