Evesham host top archery shoots

EVESHAM Archery Club hosted two world-record status competitions.

A junior metric event saw eight to 18-year-olds competing over four distances with the older archers shooting as far as 70 metres.

The hot weather was an added challenge for youngsters with many starting to flag after five hours of firing.

Five new national records were set on the day with Evesham archers Mark Davies and Harriet Fletcher both getting personal best scores.

The next day, Evesham hosted their 30th annual spring shoot in a double FITA format.

It was an internationally-ratified round where archers shot over 50, 60 or 70m depending on gender and bow style.

The weather conditions were even more tricky as it was just as hot but with an added stiff breeze to contend with.

Great Britain archer Andrea Gales won the women’s compound event after returning from surgery on her elbow.

Former GB archer Roy Nash claimed the men’s recurve, while Evesham archer Sally Gilder secured the junior women’s recurve 70m round.

Several of the other Evesham members also achieved personal bests on the day.
