BOTH Broadway sides recorded their first Cotswold Hills Cricket League victories of the season in perfect conditions.

The firsts beat Elmley Castle by 101 runs in the Premier Division after being bowled out for 194 in the 36th over.

New overseas player Chioke Payne scored a hard-hitting 70 and was supported by Gary Hawkins’ well-paced 47.

Cooper and Brown took three wickets each as several Broadway batsmen struggled on a good track.

The bottom-of-the-table hosts struggled against fine bowling and slip catching.

Opening bowler Nick Stewart (4-22) sent down a 10-over spell unchanged in the heat.

Jamie Powell went through the middle order with 5-15 as Elmley slumped to 93 all out.

Eight wickets were caught by the wicketkeeper or slips and Broadway bagged 23 points to move up to fifth.

Their mid-table second XI beat pace-setters Welford-on-Avon by seven wickets in Division Five after bowling them out for 115.

Josh Burford took three wickets, while Warren Marston, Luke McDonagh and Matt Ross claimed two.

In reply, McDonagh hit 68 as Broadway reached a winning 116-3 with 25 overs left.

Broadway’s under 13s beat Bredon and the under 11s lost to the same club.

The club have a half-term junior coaching camp from Monday until Wednesday from 8.30am until 12.30pm.

Second-placed Bretforton won by six wickets at Long Itchington in the Premier Division after scoring 202-4 in reply to 197 all out.

Ashton-under-Hill claimed their first Division One victory of the season with a thrilling one-run win at Tanworth and Camp Hill.

They scored 203-6 and then restricted the hosts to 202-7 in collecting 20 points.

Third-placed Bidford-on-Avon won by 13 runs at Rowington and Moreton-in-Marsh defeated basement boys Chipping Campden in a Cotswold derby.

Leaders The Lenches continued to impress in Division Two with a seven-wicket win at Overbury and Badsey remained second despite losing by 28 runs at home to Exhall and Wixford seconds.

Jamie Anderson took 4-36 and John Osborne scored 27 for Badsey, who visit The Lenches on Saturday.
