EVESHAM'S Michael Tustin missed out on a podium spot in round two of the East Midland Racing Association Championships' Superstock 600 class at Cadwell Park.

After qualifying ninth for race one in damp conditions, the Team MTR rider was making progress in sixth for the first four laps of the seven.

Tustin made his moves on laps five and six to finish a creditable fourth and much closer to the front riders than the previous round, setting his fastest laps of the Lincolnshire circuit in the process.

He started sixth for race two and moved up to third but without the pace to challenge the top two.

Tustin held his position until he was passed on the final lap, leaving him fourth.

He said: "Although it was a shame not to make the podium, I came away fairly pleased having bridged the gap to the front-runners, especially after the first meeting."

Tustin was supported by Vale Tyre and Exhaust Service Centre and Bud Tustin Hire.

The next round is at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, on Sunday, May 18.

Meanwhile, Mark Tyrrell competed at the same Cadwell Park meeting in the 125cc class.

A double winner at the track last year, the Evesham racer was hopeful on his Chapman-Tyrrell GP125 Honda.

Tyrrell secured second place on the grid in the mixed Bill Fry 125cc Championship.

In a thrilling opener, Tyrrell led his class for six laps but Arnie Shelton claimed the triumph by 1.561 seconds after a seventh-lap overtake with Mick Corrigan winning overall on his 1200.

It ended the Vale racer's record of 14 back-to-back victories but still earned 12 handy points.

Tyrrell set the early pace in the second race only for a collision to stunt his progress.

He was not allowed to get back on his bike and Shelton bagged another win.
