THREE Vale swimming stars shone at the British Championships and Commonwealth Trials in Glasgow.

Cameron Brodie, 21, Harry Ackland, 17, and Chloe Golding, 14, brought home medals from the six-day competition.

In-form Brodie produced a solid performance in the senior 200-metre butterfly heats, qualifying for the final in sixth place.

After a strong start, he built up steadily over four gruelling lengths and a new personal best of one minute and 57.96 seconds secured third place for his first individual medal at British level.

Brodie reached the qualifying standard for Scotland for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and has been nominated for the team.

He admitted: “The main emotion is just relief. In time, I will be able to look at the videos and enjoy what was probably the best swim of my life so far.

“However, my coach has already made it clear that this is just the beginning and the hard work starts now.”

After leaving Evesham Swimming Club, Brodie developed his talent at Kelly College in Devon and Stirling University in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Ackland defended his junior 100m breaststroke title with a pb of 1.03.79 to win gold again.

He also secured silver in the 50m breaststroke in his last year as a junior and is looking to make a successful move to the tough senior ranks.

Ackland is completing his final year at Plymouth College and has competed as a junior for GB in recent seasons.

Golding, another former Evesham club prospect, enjoyed her first taste of the top league after qualifying for five national events.

She reached four junior finals with her best performance saved for the 100m backstroke when she finished a close second against top opposition in 1.03.67.

The experience will be vital as Golding competes at the Midlands Youth Championships in May at Corby and the national youth finals in Sheffield in August.

She now swims for Ellesmere College Titans and has been picked for Great Britain in July’s European Junior Championships in Holland.

At the British championships, Golding was also seventh in the 400m individual medley in 5.08.58, fifth in the 200m backstroke in 2.17.99 and fifth in a close 50m backstroke in 30.83.
