ASHTON-under-Hill maintained their unbeaten run to claim the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Evesham championship.

They beat main challengers Bredon by five wickets with two overs left after passing the target of 95-4 with a score of 96-1.

Although Ashton bowlers struggled early on when conceding 18 wides, Bredon's batsmen cracked first.

They lost Clive Fenney (3) to a run-out in the second over and another two fell in similar fashion in the fifth over.

At the halfway point, the score was only 37-3 but the change bowlers gave Bredon respite, allowing Ali Munro (30 not out) and Martin Hill (23) to take the total to 90.

Hill was finally caught behind and a target of 96 runs for victory was unlikely to worry the Ashton batsmen unless they lost early wickets.

Openers Will Archer (25no) and Richard Cooper (22) showed no nerves as they took the score to 60.

Cooper missed a straight ball trying one outrageous nudge round the corner too many.

After Will Archer retired, brother Tom Archer (21no) and Jack Perks (22no) gave Bredon no further encouragement.

Evesham Casuals (128-5) lost to mid-table rivals Dumbleton (129-2) with eight balls remaining.

The final match of the season at Prince Henry’s Sports Hall produced runs galore with the batsmen on top throughout.

Pete Cross (25) and Ady Witts (23) played tip-and-run cricket to great effect.

Although Witts was run-out in the fifth over, Casuals reached 71 after six overs.

Only Tom Green (1-14) bowled economically and, although wickets tumbled towards the end to Simon Slabbert (2-34), a final over of eight deliveries conceded 18 runs.

But Casuals' bowling resources were exposed in reply when the change bowlers had to be called upon.

From 53-2 at halfway with Slabbert scoring 25no, Dumbleton took 53 from Steve Charlton's overs and 38 from Ash Charlton.

Both Rupert Salmon and Adam Stuart plundered and retired with Green picking up the scraps left to add 76 in less than five overs.
