EVESHAM Swimming Club hosted the first of three annual schools galas with Swan Lane First running out convincing victors.

They won the larger first schools category after 18 races for year three, four and five boys and girls covering the 25-metre freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.

Swan Lane amassed 152 points and seven gold medals with their year five girls winning all three races.

Bengeworth finished second with 119, taking one gold in the process, with Badsey third on 115 and three golds.

Other race winners were Harvington with three and St Mary’s, St Richards, Bengeworth, The Littletons and Oak Hill with one apiece.

Swan Lane won the girls' 4x25m relay and Bengeworth the boys' contest.

Presentations were held in front of Evesham Leisure Centre and Oak Hill School's depleted team claimed the achievement award.

St Andrews and Sedgeberrow also competed.

Meanwhile, Evesham made a fine start to life in Nuneaton League Division Two following promotion.

They produced fine individual and team displays to finish second behind Market Harborough but ahead of Oldbury, Boldmere, Lichfield and Burntwood.

Evesham managed 14 individual personal bests and 23 from relay splits.

The nine year olds made their league bow. Mollie Cresswell won the girls' 25m freestyle and 25m butterfly in 17.51 seconds and 18.87 respectively, while Daniel Chalk claimed the boys' 25m backstroke in 24.04.

Rachel Egan took the girls' 10 years 25m butterfly before joining Sophie Pettit, Reka Varvedo Beaton and Elysia Henley in the triumphant 4x25m medley and 4x25m freestyle relays.

In the girls' 8x25m freestyle relay, Evesham won comfortably through Cresswell, Faye Castle, Pettit, Egan, Georgie Banton, Heather Castle, Brodie Mabbett and Rebecca Brown.

OTHER RESULTS Second places: Amber Cape (girls' nine years 25m breaststroke), Lucy Keeping, Cresswell, Cape and Faye Castle (girls' nine years 4x25m freestyle), James Ensell (boys' nine years 25m breaststroke), Chalk, Ensell, Daniel Goodall and Ronan Doeey (boys' nine years 4x25m medley), Pettit (girls' 10 years 50m breaststroke), Oliver Foster (boys' 10 years 50m freestyle), Jack Barclay (boys' 10 years 50m breaststroke), Luke Perry, Benjamin McKenna, James Carsberg and Toby Vale (boys' 12 years 4x25m freestyle relay).

Third places: Egan (girls' 10 years 50m backstroke), Foster (boys' 10 years 25m butterfly), Foster, Barclay, Sam Parker and Simeon Todorov (boys' 10 years 4x25m medley and the 4x25m freestyle relays), Banton (girls' 11 years 50m backstroke), Heather Castle (girls' 11 years 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly), Brown (girls' 12 years 50m freestyle), Perry (boys' 12 years 50m freestyle), McKenna (boys' 12 years 50m backstroke), Cresswell, Pettit, Banton, Brown, Goodall, Foster, Kieran Cooper and Perry (mixed 8x25m freestyle cannon).

Fourth places: Kate Dufty, Heather Castle, Banton and Holly Langston (girls' 11 years relays), Brown (girls' 12 years 50m butterfly), Brown, Rosie Denning, Mabbett and Emily May-Sandalls (girls' 12 years 4x25m freestyle and 4x25m medley relays).
