THE rollercoaster season continued for Bretforton with a 3-1 defeat at lowly Hereford in West Clubs Women's Hockey League Premier Division '2A'.

A weakened side slipped to third in the table with Tess Lewinton scoring after a fine pass from Bret's player-of-the-match Terri Brown.

They finish their home league programme on Saturday against second-placed Team Bath Buccaneers seconds (10.30am).

Pershore beat Redditch 3-1 in Worcestershire Women's League Division One with Mary Small, Kate Adams and Gemma Pinney on target. Now safe from relegation, they visit Badsey, who beat Droitwich 5-1, on Saturday.

In men's hockey, Pershore finished fifth in West Midlands Division Two after a 4-1 win at Droitwich.

Despite falling behind, Ed Deacon (3) and Rob Smith, who suffered a broken finger, scored. The seconds lost 7-2 to Droitwich and the thirds conceded 3-0 to Redditch.

Meanwhile, Evesham won 4-2 at Yardley with all the goals from Stuart Bearcroft and they finished fourth in the table.

The seconds bounced back to seal a convincing 5-2 West Midlands League Division Two victory at home to fellow strugglers Barlaston.

The visitors were livelier for the first 10 minutes and scored twice but Evesham woke up with Doug Haycock galvanising his defence.

Jonathan Grumball and Jamie Powell struck back before Ian Hartwell went close.

Powell struck again from a short corner and Evesham dominated the second period through man-of-the-match Paul Martin and Nick Broom. Andy Osborne extended the lead and Broom put the match beyond doubt.

Evesham Badgers triumphed 5-0 at Coventry and North Warwick with Adam Haycock (4) and Lydia Webster scoring.
