TEAM Raleigh's Yanto Barker perfectly topped off a team infiltration in the Evesham Wheelers Vale Road Race open event as his cycling outfit claimed the top four positions.

On one of the best days for weather the 100-kilometre race has seen for many years, Barker was part of what looked like the winning selection when a seven-man breakaway formed with team-mate Liam Stones.

Fourteen riders, including three more from Raleigh, gave chase in the closing lap.

Barker took his chance and claimed the victory, winning by eight seconds ahead of the bunch, which swallowed up the break in the last kilometre.

Wheelers' Ben Stockdale finished an impressive fifth overall in a fast, attacking race.

Barker, who clocked two hours 14 minutes 48 seconds, said: "Once I got the gap I pressed on and it panned out really well with a '1,2,3,4' for the team."

An additional bonus was the sighting of a special guest spotted throughout the course, which turned out to be Sean Yates, one of Great Britain's most prolific Tour De France yellow jersey wearers. He was out supporting his son Liam, who was riding for Catford CC.

The event was sponsored by Vale company Kanes Foods.
