THE High Bridge Jewellers’ Bourton 10-kilometre race proved more popular than ever.

The scenic, flat and fast competition, organised by Bourton Roadrunners, saw 500 places snapped up within a record 24 hours this year.

Runners faced strong winds but otherwise favourable conditions.

The race was won by Bristol and West AC's Oliver Mott, improving on his third place from 2013, in 32 minutes 21 seconds.

Rachel Felton, of Stroud AC, was first woman and 21st in 34.40.

Many of Bourton’s regular racers were marshals, so the few club members who took part had plenty of support from the sidelines.

Mike Hobbs was first for Bourton in 39.14, followed by Lucy Walmsley (39.43 and third women's over 40), Rob Humphris (45.03), Alan Gibson (56.50) and Sue Whitehill (one hour three minutes 33 seconds).

Doug Reeve, who has overcome a difficult year of illness and injury, finished in 1.08.02.
