MANAGER Paul Collicutt says he is trying to keep his Evesham United players on their toes for when they eventually return to action.

The adverse weather is continuing to blight the football fixtures and the Robins have seen their schedule disrupted.

Their last two Calor Southern League Division One South and West matches have been postponed due to waterlogged pitches, at Taunton Town on Tuesday and Swindon Supermarine last Saturday.

With conditions showing no signs of abating and the Jubilee Stadium surface saturated, Evesham's home double header against North Leigh on Saturday (3pm) and Didcot Town next Tuesday (7.45pm) could follow.

But the team are still able train and Collicutt is continuing to plan as normal in case the games get the go ahead.

He said: "The pitch is very wet but you've just got to get on with it, it's no good moaning. There's nothing that can be done and hopefully we'll get them ready because all of a sudden they'll be moaning that they've got too much football.

"You've just got to go game to game and there are a lot of matches that are going to have to be fitted in over the next few months.

"But you can already say that both games are in doubt knowing what the forecast is so it's very difficult."

The United boss is also keen to train outside when possible in order to save money.

He added: "We had 19 for training on Tuesday but the journeys are taking a bit longer because people are having to take longer routes to avoid the floods.

"We went for a road run and then we got them on the grass where it was very wet. You can go and book all these indoor places but that costs money.

"We've done our bit and hopefully there will be a game on Saturday although I'm not very hopeful because the weather forecast is pretty lousy for the next couple of days."

On a positive note, Evesham have added Banbury-based Joe Eyre to their ranks, a player who can operate on either flank or up front.

Centre-half Adam Millard has also returned from a month in Australia and is back in contention.

Collicutt said: "Adam went to Australia and was meant to miss eight games because he went on Boxing Day and only came back Friday but he's only missed four games."
