MARCUS Palmer came off the bench to score a late equaliser and earn Evesham United a 1-1 draw at Clevedon Town in Calor Southern League Division One South and West.

With just 60 seconds left, Palmer levelled proceedings in a match United dominated throughout but they failed to see off the Seasiders after missing a host of clear-cut chances.

Evesham's poor disciplinary record continued when Marcus Jackson was shown a straight red card in the second-half following an altercation with Kyle Mountford, who was also sent off to leave Clevedon with nine men.

The Robins were camped in their opponents' half from the start and should have been well in front by the time the hosts opened the scoring on 27 minutes with their only shot at goal all afternoon.

Nuno Felix found Kyle Thomas in space down the right and the winger cut inside before firing past keeper John Bateman into the bottom corner.

Moments later, Evesham's Ed Williams was denied a shooting chance when the winger's trickery took him through on goal only to be pulled back by last-man Joe Swift on the edge of the box with the Clevedon player red carded.

Before half-time, Carl Brown, Lance Smith and Jackson all missed chances to level for the Robins, while Linden Dovey struck the outside of a post.

The second period was as one-sided as the first with Bateman a spectator in the United goal.

Dan Watkin struck the Clevedon bar and Smith, Jared Wilson and Neil Barnfield should have hit the target when well placed.

By now, United's corner count was well into double figures but a combination of resolute defending and wayward finishing enabled Clevedon to hang on to their slender lead.

After Jackson's departure, United continued to throw men forward and, just when it seemed it was not going to be their day, up stepped Palmer with a minute remaining to bag a dramatic equaliser.

The Robins substitute cleverly turned his marker before firing a left-footed shot into the roof of the net past keeper James Dunn.
