Sweatman gets triple gold haul

PERSHORE got their new season off to a flying start with a small youth squad impressing at the annual Dukeries open meet.
Competing against strong swimmers from the north at Sheffield’s 50-metre international pool, Pershore earned nine podium finishes and two age group gold medals.
Simon Sweatman bagged six trophies, including three golds, two silvers and a bronze medal. He started with an 11 to 12-year-old 50m butterfly silver in a new personal best of 33.87 seconds.
Sweatman powered to victory in the 10 to 11 100m freestyle in one minute 5.13 seconds and earned the British Age Group Categories (BAGCAT) trophy for the single best performance by an 11-year-old boy. He secured silver in the 11 to 12 50m backstroke in 36.27 and gold in the 10 to 11 100m butterfly in 1.17.73.
Sweatman added gold in the 10 to 11 100m backstroke in 1.18.41 and bronze in the 11 to 12 50m freestyle in 30.22.
William Gearey took 10- year-old 50m freestyle gold in a pb of 32.12 and collected the BAGCAT trophy for his age group. He was also fifth in the 10 to 11 100m freestyle.
Megan Annis grabbed a 10- year-old 50m freestyle silver in 34.76 along with fourths in the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke and fifth in the 50m butterfly.
Hazel Clay, also 10, competed at her first long-course meeting and smashed several pbs in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Alexandra Dobell shone in the girls’ 14 years and over 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
Patrick Heeks showed promise with pbs, including in the 10-year-old 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
Calum Sanderson, 13, impressed in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle, while sister Kate Sanderson, 10, swam the 100m butterfly and 50m butterfly.
Josh Sharratt, 11, Katie Sharratt, 15, Isobel Cumming, 10, Charlotte Downey, 10, and Melissa Radley, 11, also set pbs.
