United's fine mini run comes to an end
EVESHAM United failed to make it three Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West wins in a week after losing 2-1 at home to Shortwood United.
Two first-half goals clinched a league double for the inform visitors.
Despite slipping to their eighth home defeat of the campaign, Evesham went ahead in the sixth minute.
Will Gayton’s long throw was cleared as far as Jamie Hyde and the midfielder lashed in a fine volley past keeper Tom King.
Shortwood looked dangerous at set-pieces and, from a Jake Parrot free-kick, Mark Pritchett’s diving header levelled on 16 minutes.
The rest of the half belonged to Shortwood and, in injury-time from another setplay, they struck the winner through Terry Bohane.
The second period was scrappy with Shortwood content to sit on their lead and King only had to smother from Marcus Palmer.
Despite throwing keeper Tom Cross up for a succession of free-kicks and corners at the death, the Robins could not find an equaliser.
Evesham: Cross, Wilson, Mansell, Sysum, Jackson, Hyde, Downing, Kandekore (Clarke 76), Palmer, Brown, Gayton. Subs not used: Gould, Hitchman, Turner, Dell.
Attendance: 177.
- The club are running a coach to Sholing next Wednesday, departing the Jubilee Stadium at 3.30pm.
