BROADWAY’S consistent Sam McPherson and Matthew Sollis took the honours after eight rounds of the club’s men’s winter league.

Fifty-two teams battled for top position but the strong pairing of McPherson and Sollis continued to be the ones to beat.

With fine weather and course conditions, they romped home with 70 points ahead of Bill Scarrot and Corny Smith (58) and Howard Mitchell and Keith Williams (55).

The top teams will receive trophies at the presentation on April 7 following the captain versus president event.

Other final round positions: 4 Terry Moulder and Richard Craig 55, 5 Andy Simms and Stuart Sollis 52, 6 Paul and Nigel Evans 51, 7 Shaun Thornhill and Andy Campbell 49, 8 Tim Green and Neil Thoulds 49, 9 Paul Miller and Joe Williams 49, 10 Joe Icke and Peter Cockle 48.

Meanwhile, Broadway ladies held the better ball round of their winter league over 16 holes.

The top three all scored 37 and were only divided on count-back with Ann Fairbairn and Esther Pettitt winning ahead of Veronica Rudd with Liza Smith and Juliet Enderby with Janet Sandalls.
