MORETON Rangers fell at the final hurdle with a Gloucestershire FA Senior Amateur Cup semi-final home defeat on penalties.
They went down 5-4 to fellow Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two high-fliers Minsterworth after drawing a pulsating clash 3-3.
Minsterworth had already hit the bar before Matt Magee put Moreton ahead on eight minutes when he cut in to shoot past the keeper from Conner Sherry's pass.
However, their lead was short-lived as, by the 15th minute, Minsterworth were in front with two quick-fire goals helped by poor defending.
Magee forced a save before the scores were level when good control and skill by Sherry led to a rash challenge and Danny Sherry converted the resulting penalty.
The second period started with more defensive confusion early on which led to Minsterworth regaining the lead with an easy finish.
Moreton brought on Martin Tomes whose pace stretched the visitors and he was denied by the keeper's outstretched foot.
With 10 minutes left, Tomes was taken out by the keeper which led to a second penalty for the home side and Danny Sherry again made no mistake.
Ben Shurmer saw a long-range chip just clear the bar with the keeper stranded as the scores remained level at the end of normal time.
The penalty shoot-out produced excellent spot-kicks from both sides but the unfortunate Sam Tyack hit the post, ending Moreton's run in the competition.
Fifth-placed Rangers head to bottom-of-the-table Chalford in the league on Saturday, while Bourton Rovers, who lost 2-0 at home to leaders Barometrics, visit Longford (both 3pm).
Winchcombe Town ran high-flying Harrow Hill close in Division One, losing 3-2 with Garth McDonald and Will Parker scoring. They host Broadwell Amateurs on Saturday (3pm).
