Bret ride storm to eye title

BRETFORTON have one hand on the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League North Division title after beating main rivals Jaspers 2-0.

The Vale side lead their Bristol opponents by seven points ahead of Saturday’s home game with bottom-ofthe- table Yate seconds (10.30am) when they can secure promotion to the Premier Division.

Once Bret rode the initial storm from their visitors, the Jaspers keeper saved several penalty corners before Deb Slatter slotted home Hayley Whitehouse’s near-post pass.

Slatter missed out on her brace after the umpire awarded a penalty corner.

But player-of-the-match Hayley Whitehouse beat four players before powering in the second goal.

Jaspers were snuffed out by solid defending from Evesham High School-based Bret who impressed with their team-work and determination.
